And I've already designed a model in 2020. The fold should be coming soon. :)

Thanks!
The gist of circle packing is that flaps in a base can be represented by circles whose radii are equal to the length of the respective flaps. I've never used it to good effect--at least, not in several years--but the same principles apply to box-pleating and 22.5-degree, both of which I use frequently.

Incredible! How long have you been collecting this figurine? It turned out incredibly cool, realistic.

Thank you! It took me about three days to design and maybe 5-6 hours to fold.

It really takes a long time! I am still folding unpretentious origami, but I am very far from complex origami.

There's honestly no easy answer to finding reference points for circle-packed models. The best method I can give is this:

-Use a ruler and a protractor to locate the coordinates of each circle center.
-Plug those coordinates into Robert Lang's program ReferenceFinder. You'll need to do this for each point individually.
-Once you pinch the centers of each circle, precrease the axial creases and then the molecules according to the crease pattern.

Lang's Scorpion (from Origami Insects II) and Roosevelt Elk (from Origami Design Secrets - 2nd Edition) are two good examples of this.
Another option is to stick with 22.5-degree angles, in which case all the proportions can be calculated using basic algebra. Then you can use the crossing diagonals method to find the locations of the creases.
