My entry - Mango and Leaf:

The mangoes are small and green this time of year, we have a mango tree in our garden.

Are non-paper models allowed, like cloth?

Re: Monthly folding challenge: May 2013
I'd say that would qualify, Pete.
Looks like another slow month for entries, but the quality is very high on all of them.
Just a couple more days and then I'll have to put my judging hat on!

All right! Looks like I must hurry! I just got an idea for an indubitably garden-themed model!spiritofcat wrote:I'd say that would qualify, Pete.

Re: Monthly folding challenge: May 2013
The month is over so it's time for me to get judging!
Let me see...
Honourable Mentions:
moonlight's Mango and Leaf.
Beautiful shaping on the leaf section. The mango itself looks good too, but the visible white part of paper and the obvious flaps where the leaf meets the fruit keep it from looking as great as perhaps it could.
snowblue's Cob Cannon.
A very cute design. Quite the feat of technical design with the colour change and everything, but when I do a google image search for Cob Cannon I get the impression that the corn cob section should be much more of a rounded 3D shape, and while the cute little eyes that are so characteristic of all the Plants VS Zombie characters are perhaps suggested by some of the folds and layers at the edges, I'd have liked to see them made much more noticable.
marco paso's Garden Scissors.
Honestly, there's nothing wrong with this model. It's a fairly faithful re-creation of a very common garden tool. Very simple and not hindered by excess fiddly bits of detail. It's a very solid entry, but it just didn't impress me as much as some of the others did.
And so, without further ado, the winners!
3rd: origamipete Green Tree Frog
Lovely design. Very nice shaping. Not much to say here really. It looks like a frog.
2nd: origamipete Garden Tools.
Now these really impressed me. The choice of paper combined with the colour change to give those worn looking wooden handles and shiny metal heads, that's beautiful! The detail and precision of design, especially on the hoe/spade. Magnificent!
1st: gachepapier Caterpillar on Leaf.
I've always found multiple subjects from a single sheet very impressive.
The depth of detail in this model, plus the subtle colour change really make it stand out to me.
It's a beautiful design concept and excellently folded.
Congratulation gachepapier, you are the winner!
