Monthly Folding Challenge: December 2013

Post by Baltorigamist »

This month's topic will be Color Change.

This has always been a personal favorite element of origami--the abiłity to skillfully use both sides of the sheet to depict different parts of the model. So design your Santas (since it's December :P) and zebras and whatever else you can think of.

RULES:

-One uncut square
-No tape or glue
-MC allowed for shaping
After the fall, we rise.

I decided to take my entry of last month's challenge further.
The very rough idea is still the same, but it is now from a square, paper use is more efficient, and most importantly it has a color change (which took quite a few trials to get right)...

I'm here for the fist time and decided to start with my own design of a dragonfly. It's boxpleated from a square. The color change is obvious.

edit: corrected boxbleating

Goblin Mask, from a fish base. I added two small strip grafts for the eyes which gave extra paper for the tongue and a nice lock for the top of the nose which holds it all together. Folded from a 10cm square of washi (momi?) painted on one side with acrylic. A really nice looking paper but hard to fold with, I mucked up one side #-o

Hi,
my origami models are usually made by play around with paper and are 1 colored so I found this harder than normal. This is a basic model of gremlin (from the movie).

Since I'm new, is there a winner, if so how is this decided and is there a better way to make models especially the double sided ones.
Thanks a lot.

wait a sec, I've just got to do this fold.

Totally didn't relize that colour change was the topic for this month... I need to pay more attention :P

Anyway since I designed this earlier this month I'll enter it:

Butterfly.
Folded from a 50cm square of double tissue. Boxpleated on a grid of 40. Yes it does have legs...
I focussed on getting good colour changes into the design and I think I succeeded. Hope you like it!
