To do list for designers, wish list for folders

Post by NeverCeaseToCrease »

Hello everybody,

I thought of an idea that might go well on this forum. I find that there are two common problems: Designers have no inspiration for models, and folders need to fold something specific but can't find any existing models.

So, a win win solution: Folders can post their requests here, and any designer who feels up for the challenge can design it for him/her. This is sort of like commissioning, but hopefully here the designers will be kind enough to share the knowledge for free.

Hopefully this thread takes off...
I'll start it off with this: I would really like to see a design for a Meta Knight, Captain Olimar, or a dragon with fire.

Here's a useful tip: whenever you get an idea for an interesting subject, write it down. Even if you don't have the experience to fold it. Eventually, you'll get more experience and may be able to design the subjects you noted down in the past.

By the way, I have seen metaknights and fire-breathing dragons in origami. Try doing a search on flickr for those.

Thanks for the tip but yes, I already have a list of models I would like to make. I suppose this post was intended to be a communal list of interesting subjects, I guess.

Also, there's nothing wrong with designing a subject that's already been made, as long as the design is different. I don't have a flickr and don't know how to use it anyways.

I recommend you buy and use a small bottle of Methly Cellulose. Most art supply stores would have it for 5-10 bucks, and there's lots of info on this forum on how to apply it. As everybody on this forum and I will say, MC greatly improves model quality and will make your models far better.

Also, I recommend you use https://imgbb.com/ to directly upload your photos onto the forum, instead of posting them on instagram. Click on the option that says "BBCcode full linked" and copy and paste the part that starts and ends with [IMG].

As for Mens et Manus, the cp does have mountains and valley folds but they are extremely subtle. Anyways, that model is extremely difficult, it uses a 112x112 grid! In comparison, Satoshi Kamiya's Ryujin 2.1 is only 80x80.

One last thing: The models you post are all models that require a good shaping just as much as it requires a well collapsed crease pattern. Most people learn how to effectively shape by folding other people's diagrams, and again, the MC will help you shape better. Here's a video you might find helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gbs0Y-qySg

I hope something here helps you. Good luck!
