We should have a fold off

I have made a very weak looking monkey, to go along with the one in my dorm room pictures soon

The last article on this page, I believe its Chapter 2 has a little bit about folding a monkey

After reading up on tiling in Origami Design Secrets, downloading Reference Finder and generally mucking around a bit, I came up with this today:

Cthulhu

I need to make the body a bit shorter (which should have the side effect of increasing the length of the limbs and head and decreasing the size of the wings). The way the arm flaps are partly trapped under the wings is a bit unfortunate, as is the profile view. I should really give it some claws on the next version, at least on the feet.

I like that model... Lovecraft really was kind of mad... died too young... one of the real masters of horror.
the face is great, wings and legs are ok, but the arms are too short.

It's basically the classic Robert Neale dragon design, only folded from a 60/120 degree rhombus instead of a square, giving it much larger wings. If you don't have diagrams for the Neale dragon, the one in Origami to Astonish and Amuse is very similar.

I think Lovecraft's city of R'lyeh is meant to be non-Euclidean in the sense that it contains impossible Escher-style architecture.

Well, the base monkey 1.0 (I think it looks kind of like a Tamarin) and 2.0 start from is a half blintzed bird base, half blintzed frog base w/ the blintzed bird base in the middle. The Monkey Mask was an idea I got the night I finished monkey 1.0. Since I wanted a more life like face,the original using what I call a "Yoshizawa" monkey face, I had to do something with the basic head flap. First I made a kite base to experiment on, I used a basic muzzle design I use on some of my other animals,but shortened it, then formed some basic eyes,and with the bottom of the triangle, I used the two points to fold ears. The next day I grafted it onto another monkey made with a larger sheet of paper,and "Tah-da!" I had a semi-life-like Monkey design. If I make a monkey 3.0 it will be wet folded from an even larger sheet of paper and have fingers, longer tail,etc.

BTW those are some nice monkey designs.

From the O-list
Robert Neale's dragon.
(Shockingly under-represented in origami publications - as far as I know
it's only available in Jay Ansill's Mythical Beings (out of print) and the
OUSA Flapping Bird compilation. Lots of other dragons are based on it
though, e.g. Jeremy Shafer's one.)
The original "more points than you thought would be possible from a bird
base" model. (Designed around 1960?)
I prefer to fold this from a rhombus rather than a square. The long points
of the rhombic bird base become the wings, and look waaay bigger than those
of the square version. Observe:
