Monthly Design Challenge - May 2018

Post by Baltorigamist »

This month's topic is May the Fourth Be With You. Interpret it any way you like, and I can't wait to see what you all come up with.

RULES:
-One uncut square of paper.
-No cutting.
-No gluing. MC is allowed for shaping.

NeverCeaseToCrease will judge.

Good luck!
After the fall, we rise.

Well, the month is about halfway over and we have only two entries. Hopefully, 16 days has been enough for you to find a good idea. Let's see if we can get at least two more before the end of May!

Please remember that you can enter anything as long as it's your design, even if you don't think it's that good. We are a very friendly competition here! :)

22.5 degree design, one square sheet of biotope, 35 cm to a side. No cuts or glue, as always.
Roughly version 3.5 I guess.

Also, good luck to everybody who has finals...

I wasn't sure what to do for this month. I absolutely love star wars, but I couldn't decide what I wanted to fold. I was originally planning on something from Solo, but I ended up scrapping that for this, an at-at. My apologies that I didn't take the time to fold a model with better paper and with nicer photography, but I didn't have much time left, and I still wanted to get this done...

Anyway, nice work to everyone else!

Hello!
This is my new model called "The Return". This was a real challenge for me to get four creatures from the one square. The Second World War has its ending in May so my model is about the return of the soldier to its wife, child and dog.
Acyually, I really like how the girl is shaped because she looks so light so the soldier lifts her a little bit and she stands on tiptoe.
Also, I decided to publish its crease pattern. Enjoy!

Continuing with my theme of models that relate tangentially to the theme, I present the second model in my series "May the Force (of Evolution) be with you": Origami Spinosaurus Aegyptiacus, v 3.5.
ImageOrigami Spinosaurus Aegyptiacus, v 3.5 by Travis Nolan, on Flickr

Patterned tissue paper methyl-cellulosed to normal tissue, 25 cm to a side. No weight used to help it balance, no cuts, glue, or paint. Really happy with how this turned out. The trickiest part was oddly the neck, it took several revisions to perfect.

First of all, thank you to all of you who took the time to contribute to the origami community this month!

This month was quite a tight pick, but I have to say: the winner is Iren Rondo with an incredibly complex model with 4 figures! I liked how it also evoked some emotion, which makes the model even better.

But once again, great job everybody! We got a total of 6 entries, which is better than some of the past few months. Let's aim for 7 entries next time! :)
