Monthly Design Challenge May 2019

Post by jeko »

The theme of this month's challenge is "Birthday"
The topic should be seen in the broader sense, so it could be something typical related to birthdays like cake, balloons, candles, piñatas, etc. or the actual day of birth like pacifiers, storks, baby animals, etc.
and yes, it's my birthday this month

Here are two of my old designs that would qualify:

Rules:
  • one or several uncut sheet(s) of paper, the paper shape needs to be convex (so e.g., square, rectangle, triangle, hexagon)
  • MC or similar is allowed for shaping
  • the model needs to be designed (or significantly re-designed) in May 2019
  • if the connection to "Birthday" is not obvious, please add a little explanation
The judge will be victorien.

Here's my design for this month, Motherhood.

Image

Since May 12th is also Mother's Day, I decided to depict everyone's first birthday, as well as the moment when all mothers fall in love with their child, the moment they hold them in their arms.

I plan on gifting this to my mom, hopefully showing her even a quarter of the love she's shown me all these years.

Ok, I know this is a little on the late side, I've had a bunch of assignments due lately. Nepafius's model is great and would be almost impossible to beat, but I've decided to drop by and give him a model to contest against at the very least (and this was designed a week or so ago, so it should be ok). But here it is:

Hello everyone and congratulations to both of you!

I had a hard time choosing the winner between the two propositions! I am not sure it is fair to rank them...

1st : Nepafarius. Your model is quite impressive and the motivation behind it is awesome! Bravo!
2nd : Folderp. I really love your model and, again, it was very difficult for me to choose.

Nepafarius will judge the June 2019 competition and propose the topic for the July 2019 competition (am I right?).

Thanks for the kind words victorien! I look forward to next month's challenge (hopefully more people compete)

And Folderp, thank you for entering as well! Your model is very well done, and I really am amazed at the consistency of your turtle design between full body and in-shell. It shows a grasp of how to utilize paper that I often struggle with.

Congratulations Nepafarius, your model was fantastic.
Thanks victorien, I wasn't expecting to win anyway.
And thanks Nepafarius, the shell was a bit fiddly (the egg shell that is), but I'm happy with the result.
