Firstfold, your model sounds pretty easy to fold. I wanted to try it, but am not sure which three first folds I need to do (which axis of symmetry?) before the cut.

Also just a heads up since I am apparently the judge this month: I won't be available on the 1st of august, so expect the august topic + judging around the 2nd or 3rd.

I will make a "How to" video of the Star when I get a bit more time. Yes it is very easy to fold!

Here is a video that first shows how to fold the one cut star.

Next it shows a different approach to one cut origami (straight line cut on a folded square).

Have you ever folded a square into overlapping angles of 22.5 degrees, 30 degrees, or 45 degrees and then cut once to form regular pentagons - or - cutting at a different angle to make 4, 5 of 6 pointed stars.

This method adds an additional step of pleating the paper so that a single cut creates more than two separate parts, combine the parts top make a completed model.

First place will be awared to lienquocdat for his smilodon. It's an impressive looking model that manages to break two rules: multiple sheets and non-standard starting size.

Honorable mention will go to firstfold and his one-cut star for his interesting folding sequence, result and single CUT!

Congrats to every other submitted model. I was planning on submitting something myself, but couldn't due to lack of time. I will be posting the topic for august in a few minutes.

Oh, I wouldn't have considered my submission for the judging part, of course. It would've been just for fun

The eight point stars require just one more fold before making the single cut

The five point star requires overlapping 36 degree folds (around the center) before cutting.
Because the points that are folded out do not match the corners of the square - the internal layers are not evenly distributed, so you fold the inner points back to form an evenly spaced center reveal (Background shows through).

You could use this reveal on the eight point stars if desired.
