ODT #8

We're long overdue for another ODT, and I need the inspiration to do more designing. I'm happy to run it if no-one else will. Put your name down below if you would like to participate. Like last time, we'll try to avoid clashes with IOIO.

Anyone else want to sign up? It'd be a bit of a letdown to have only a two-round tournament.

If no more people (or not enough for a 3-round tournament) signs up, maybe you can organize it in a pool(?) form? Not sure of the technical term though - I mean a way where everyone will pair with everyone else.

For example with 4 persons A, B, C and D:
1st turn: A and B, C and D.
2nd turn: A and C, B and D.
3rd turn: A and D, B and C.

Then count everyone's victories; if needed, meet again those with same score.

I'm interested.

Kabuntan, I like that idea. If no one else joins, perhaps we could do it this way:
1. AB, CD - E sits out
2. AC, BE - D sits out
3. AE, BD - C sits out
4. AD, CE - B sits out
5. BC, DE - A sits out

-If there's a tie (regarding win totals) then those two face off in the final.
-If there's a three-way tie, then those three could do a three-way final.
-If there's a four-way tie, then we do two more rounds in a traditional tournament style.
-A five-way tie is unlikely but not impossible:
A beats B, C and loses to D, E
B beats C, E and loses to A, D
C beats D, E and loses to A, B
D beats A, B and loses to C, E
E beats A, D and loses to B, C

In that event, we could go by total votes received.

Whoever ends up running this thing (maybe me) should be able to figure out something nice to give good number of rounds. I like those suggestions.

I'd like to join as well if that's still possible

Yep, it's still possible.

I'll join too if it's possible, looking to get back into origami and a design challenge would be a good way of doing that.

Okay, we seem to have seven people. If someone else signs up before it gets off the ground, that's fine, 8 is a much nicer number anyway.
So what would people like the different rounds to be?
Seven rounds with one person sitting out each would make the tournament a bit too long. We could do like last year and give someone a by on the first round. Or we could do something else. Any suggestions? What would people like?

I nominate Tankoda for the first-round bye since he won the last tournament (this assuming Kabuntan doesn't participate).

Regarding the brackets, I know in the past we've tended to randomize them.
Using the order in which we've joined, I got the following:

Im on board with that. I've got another project to finish up in the next week or so, so that would dovetail nicely

I don't get how the numbers work; who am I going against?

Also, how do we decide who proposes the 3 topics and who chooses? I suppose it doesn't matter that much
