The theme of this month are "other arts": you will have to transform statues, paintings, architectural buildings or other art objects into origami.
For example the "Statue of Liberty" by Quentin Tollip or "The Scream" by Lee Inseop.

The rules are:
- cuts or scotch tape are not allowed;
- you can use one or more square, rectangular, hexagonal, triangular or circular sheets of any size and colour;
- the models can represent "works in general" (like a normal vase), but also famous works (in this case specify the author) or parts of famous works (which must however distinguish the work);
- Anythig else is allowed;

Firstfold will be judging this month challenge and proposing the May theme.

Looks like you need a bit of inspiration to get things going so here goes some examples:

You could easily recreated this tower with just a few few folded rectangular boxes - of course, I got a bit carried away:

Here is the bottom of this structure -

You might also consider making some of the architectural details of buildings - just look at the roofs of buildings for inspiration or decorative doors or windows.

I have a design in the pipes, should be done by the end of the month provided I don't keep screwing things up or letting perfectionism get in the way too much :)

Well, here we go:
ImageHollow Knight by Folderp, on Flickr

Hollow knight, from the game Hollow Knight. designed and folded by me from 15cm kami. 18x18 box-pleated.

I took a slightly loose approach to art here, as it isn't a physical artwork, but I do believe the game is a work of art, and even if you don't agree, the art within the game is pretty incredible.

This is me hitching a free ride from T. Smith. Folded from a 90 g/m² sheet of burano paper of 30.5 x 9 cm (12 x 3 9/16 in).

And here's a picture with different lighting:

You can let me know if the model isn't easy to make out and if pictures from other angles or a video are needed.

EDIT: I remembered the name of the paper so I added it.

I need an explanation of "hitching a free ride by T Smith" - I like it's simplicity and elegance of the design but unless I know the connection to something else it is too much like other things not generally considered art by themself but as an origami construction methods that are somewhat widely applied to make other things.

Sorry, I am not familiar with the concept or artist you are trying to convey.
Is there an internet link to a particular artist?
I will wait for your response before I judge this challenge.

I understand. Thanks for your request firstfold :).

So here it goes... I'm here, blatantly using Tony Smith, his work, and efforts—hence the "hitching", particularly regarding Free Ride.

First I do appreciate the effort and art that Folderp - this creation has much potential. I think a few more curves would make this creation even more appealing.

Unfortunately for Folderp, Gerado just happen to choose a style of art that is near and dear to my heart and made a simple elegant design to represent the essence of the original sculpture. I am therfor awarding Gerado as the winner of this challenge. He will have to judge the next challenge (MAY) and propose a new challenge for June.

I suspect that the ends of Gerado's fold are open (Unlike the original sculpture) but can not be sure unless seeing a different view. This could be remedied but I think is unnecessary and perhaps makes the origami creation more complex than required as a representation.

Now to understand why I like this form of sculpture - here is my visual answer:

Thank you firstfold :D! Since you referred to the ends of the model I decided to make a gif showing its different sides.

FolderP, cool character. Must be really fun to play! I enjoyed Magic Rampage a lot :).
Folderp wrote:... but I do believe the game is a work of art, and even if you don't agree, the art within the game is pretty incredible.
Hollow Knight is probably a work of art. Regarding video games in general, I think not all of them are art just for being video games, just like not every movie is, nor every drawing or every origami fold. But that doesn't mean I can easily separate art from not art :oops:. Just my two cents on the matter.

EDIT: I extended my message to FolderP a bit... and some more.

Gerardo, the gif is fantastic. I'm not sure how you uploaded it (?) although I've never tried, but it really makes the model easier to understand. 100% should be something people do more often on here, I'll have to remember.

Thanks Tankoda. I've embedded a few gifs on the forum. It's something I learned to do just a couple of years ago. But this was the first one showing all the angles, the other ones were of action models well... in action!

These are just three examples:

https://snkhan.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.ph ... 11#p147411

https://snkhan.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.ph ... 93#p148693

https://snkhan.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.ph ... 19#p152053

I record the video, then I turn it into a GIF and edit it in ezgif.com, after that I upload it in a platform like Giphy, and finally, I embed it on the forum like any other image 8).

Hey Gerardo,
both you and Tony Smith have inspired this creation - I did it in the style of Tony Smith with a touch of humor in the Style of Gerardo.
