Never knew about the honor and responsibility, what does it do?

HAHAHA... of course not. Let me explain. firstfold was the winner of the March 2020 design challenge with his model Combination Lock. He was bestowed with the honor and responsibility of judging the April challenge and now hosting this very challenge.

Each time someone wins a monthly design challenge that person is responsible for judging the submissions of the following challenge and hosting the one after that. It's an ancient tradition that started more than a hundred months ago .

Oh..... I see now. Thank you for responding. I understand now. Just have to polish up on designing before I even attempt to do anything. Good job, ScaFs!

So Tankoda, why haven't you presented a model folded from a brown paper bag?! Huh? You were so interested in the theme when I proposed it last year. You might not get another chance afterward.

Two interesting materials you gals/guys could use for this challenge are brown paper bags and also coffee paper filters. They are both foldable and they offer you more than one layer from the start. In what ways can you use those extra layers to your advantage ? I had once thought about folding puppets from brown paper bags. What do you think?

I saw this too. Maybe he already tried folding something besides the tournament out of a paper bag? Or maybe it just doesn't hold as much of an intrest anymore. It would be nice to see it though

A question if I may? You said the design has to be 'primarily' folding. Does that mean I can use adhesives and paint?

I'm planning on using cellophane.

I have a duo colored model made but the material might require some help staying together, and since it's clear I want to show off the two color part with paint.

One option in order to make folds stay in plastic materials is to carefully apply a bit of heat. Maybe tht can help you Nepafarius.

Wow. The two models are impressive, firstfold will have a tough time deciding!

I think for this challenge, I think that paint or adhesives ar OK. If you spend more time folding than painting there would be no problem in this challenge. If you paint before folding - then again no problem. It would be like using a characteristic of a dollar bill folded in just the right location to resemble eyes - a lot of money folds use this method.

I think the painted model shown is great and acceptable as is, but it might be improved by folding in colored paper in the locations that were painted so they show through the clear material.

Here is a thought for purist who require an "uncut square". I imagine that to form the square sheet of paper, frequently someone (like the paper manufacture) performed a cut. Further, some paper is made by "painting" a pulp liquid on a screen, drying the thin layer and removing it from the screen to create hand-made paper.

Finally, Gerardo will be judging this challenge, I was the person who proposed the challenge.

I wanted to show what the model was supposed to look like with proper paper. Unfortunately I don't have duo color at the moment.

This picture shouldn't be used to judge my actual submission. I just wanted to share. I really appreciate the challenges as they tend to inspire me to fold more often than usual.

Regarding new materials, I have folded plastic, fabric, and metal. Ilan Garibi has even folded glass and wood. I have no idea how ! Now, there's a vast variety of plastics, fabrics, and metals, each with their own characteristics in regards to folding. In the particular case of fabrics, there's more than one technique to make the folds hold. And there's also very different types of paper to fold, there's the thick cardboard, but also sandpaper, and paper towels. These are just some examples.

Hope this makes click in one of you .
