Here's a new one, just for this challenge:

Lovebug

Image

Lovebug. Folded from an uncut 15 cm square of origami paper. My apartment doesn't have much space, and I'm out of foil, so all I really can use is this stuff.

Based on my flying atlas beetle from 2002.

Elephant balancing a Cube

Post by firstfold »

Image

The entire model (elephant and cube) are folded from one 10 inch by 30 inch sheet of wrapping paper.
The cube part of the model was inspired by John Montroll's Cube of Squares folded in “Origami Inside Out” The actual procedure is quite different. (there are 4 white surface squares, not 6)
The elephant is based on a model I learned in the 1960's, I believe created by George Rhodes in a Robert Harbin Book. I did some significant modification so the elephant could be one segment of the complete model.
The method of combining the two into one model is my own conception.

Quick correction:
The book in which I first saw an elephant similar to one part of the Elephant balancing a cube model was published in a book by Samuel Randlett (The Best of Origami) but was indeed created by George Rhodes. Once again I did substantial changing to this model so it could combined with a cube.

Very good Firstfold. You learned that elephant in the 1960's? Is that why your name is "Firstfold"?
It reminds me of (I think Rohm's) "it's Magic". Which, I think is a classic. (Although I prefer origami from squares).
Well done, keep folding!

Yes, I am that old ! ! !

Here is one that combines the complex (double blintz - butterfly with 6 leggs - my own design) with the simple (traditional origami flower) into one model. The Butterfly on a flower is folded from a 10 inch by 30 inch sheet of wrapping paper. No cuts or glue.

Origamido Butterfly (LaFosse) on a Flower (Santee)

Post by firstfold »

Image

The Butterfly and Flower are combined in one model. I obtained permission from Michael LaFosse to use the design for the Origamido Butterfly portion of the model. The flower and the method of combining the two into one model is my own design.
-----
Thank You Michael
-----
The size of the butterfly can be adjusted by changing the length of the overall model. The butterfly is a slight modification of the LaFosse design and uses triple thickness paper in some spots to make the transition to the flower and to size the butterfly.

In this model the butterfly and flower combined use only 1 sheet of uncut wrapping paper 12 inches by 30 inches.
