JOAS Design Challenges 2008

The Japan Origami Academic Society, or Origami Tanteidan, is having their August convention in a month (August 15-17). With this convention there will be three separate design challenges, with actual prizes for each division.

In short,

-categories are
1) Anything
2) Cow / Ox / Bull (next year is the year of the Bull)
3) Sky

-you must mail in your creation if you cannot attend the meeting
-one model per category per person.
-The application must arrive by 2008/7/31.

2nd JOAS Creative Origami Contest

This is the information on the JOAS contest.

Conditions on Models
1 There are 3 sections, each of which has a theme.
*Origami House Section
no theme
*"Eto" Section (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexagenary_cycle)
ushi (Cow, Ox, or Bull)
*Special Theme Section
sora (sky)
2 Only accepts model created and folded by the applicant.
3 Only accepts unpublished work. A model published on a book or the web before 2008/08/15 is not subject to the judgement.
4 As a general rule, the width, depth, and height must be smaller than or equal to 30 cm. (Otherwise, please contact us.)
5 The model must support itself.

Conditions on Application
1 The applicant's nationality, age, or experience does not matter.
2 The applicant does not have to attend JOAS convention.
3 The application must arrive by 2008/7/31.
4 One applicant can apply 1 model for each section.
A scene composed by multiple pieces is also counted as 1 model.
5 Send the model to "JOAS Creative Origami Contest 1-33-8-216 Hakusan, Bunkyo-Ku, Tokyo 113-0001, Japan" with an application form.
Please add crease pattern or additional information if you prefer.
6 In principle, models will not be returned and will be possessions of JOAS.
If you prefer your models to be returned at your costs and responsibility, please contact us.


Award
1 One model is awarded for each section
*Origami House Award
Award by gallery origami house.
Mr. Yamaguchi's comment: "We do not stick to model from one piece. We appreciate neat and attractive works."
*"Eto" Section / Special Theme Section Award
Judged by JOAS board members and votes by convention attendees.
Board members judges based not only on the final shape, but also on the structural integrity and novelty of the model.

The award comes with 10,000 yen for each section.
The creator of the model with the most votes will be given a ticket to attend the next JOAS convention.
2 The award ceremony is held during the closing ceremony.

Hello Chosetec, I have a question :
When you say : "The model must support itself", does it mean that we can't use wire inside the model ? I'd like to use wire but I don't know if I can ... Of course, the wire would be invisible because inside the model.

Hi, Tomohiro Tachi tells me that wire is OK for the model. But you should send it so that no assembly of the model and stand (or anything) is required.
