Well.... I had the basic idea of how it should work yesterday. The rest was just rearranging the flaps to get the proper proportions. Since I don't have Wolf's proficiency concerning square packing (yet), I approached the whole thing with trial and error, going from 16x16 (starting from a small variation of my figure base) to 20x20 up to the final 24x24 grid to get the proportions right (longer body) while having enough paper for the details (toes).

Anyone notices the differences to my first version?

I'm especially happy with the way the head turned out.

Definately has potential, this model.

Personally, I would extend the colour change flame to project further from the mouth, and aim to turn the box pleats into a few points, rather than leave it flat.

I would chose a different colour from the orange. I'm afraid that makes it look like a barfing* dragon.

*Not as in Bay Area Rapid Folders.

Thanks for the comments, Stephen. I was actually planning on making the fire longer. I also need to make the flaps for the forelegs longer to match the hind legs. The only reason I didn't do it yet was that I didn't want to move away from the rather comfy 40x40 grid. I might stay in the same grid but will have to compensate with shorter wings then... I'll keep experimenting a bit

Here's the same version as the last but folded from 20cm x 20cm MC-treated double tissue paper. (On a side note: this is my first really successful attempt at creating duo-colour paper, the trick was to try a different, non-bleeding tissue paper, thx for the tip Phil)

Yes, yes, make the fire longer if you can. If you manage to make the fire longer, add detail too so that the fire doesn't look like a rectangle. Then make diagrams

Since it is only box-pleated a CP should be more than enough
Box-pleated designs are so much work to diagram..... especially all those 3D steps....

Carrion Crawler (attempt No. 1327) by myself from 15cm x 15cm Japanese foil.



I'm still not very happy with the head/mouth part but as of now I have no idea how to make it better.
The nice thing about the current version is that you can pose the crawler in any position you want thanks to the segmented body.
With a lot more patience than I had when folding this model you could also create all those tiny feet (possibly even colour-changed), there's enough paper for it.

Time for CP-revision 1328....

Excellent work on the dragon, I really like what you've done with the head section!

Just a little suggestion, though: could you make the leading edge of the wing longer than the lower one? You might have to increase the size of the wing, but I think the wing looks a bit awkward the way it is. In this respect, I think your first version looks better.

One way you could acheive this effect is to do what Satoshi kamiya did with his pheonix (box-pleating outwards one square and back inward two more).

Also, maybe you could narrow the neck and head a little bit... although that might not be possible with the size paper you have.

Nonetheless, it looks good so far.

I've recently stumbled over my old fire-breathing dragon design and found the CP to be rather ugly. So I redesigned it a bit and here's version 3.2 now with a plated back, more horns on the head and better paper usage.
Folded from a 48cm square of red foil paper with black tissue glued unto the white side (with MC).





While I'm really proud of the head I don't quite like the rest of the model, the wings come from an awkward position and the hind legs don't seem right either. So this part will probably undergo some major remodelling at some point in the future.
