Scournec from pliagedepapier.com : A Chair
Here is my participation a chair made of two rectangular assembly.
Useful for sitting and watching TV to relax
Image

Kaze from pliagedepapier.com : Ball machine
This is what I propose: I had the idea yesterday, but the design is fairly simple (although this is very annoying to fold: evil:).
the sheet is 30x30.
This is a ball machine, with a little practice, can make any kind of calculation (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division ...). No need calculator, pen or calculation mental, a simple sheet of paper is enough ! : YIPI: Here I applied, but if necessary we can bend a faster, with less stored, without edges or columns separating each groove.

The principle is quite simple: the balls are replaced by folds that can lower or raise. In the photo the two abacuses mark the 653,647 figure (for those who have never tried: the balls are lower units, the upper corresponds to 5 units), but obviously we can write any other figure, outgoing or flattening the folds, which allows to perform calculations by adding them figures, for example. This is slower than a real abacus but it still defends itself.

Vincent-origami from pliagedepapier.com : Pointed Square
the Pointed Square + © is a base for most origami models, and can get out of the square piece to add a small sign to add information.

Vincent-origami from pliagedepapier.com : Double base
the Double Base © is a stand for mobile phone And mp3 together.

Ray95 from pliagedepapier.com: Vessel and Pencil holder
Having created a new model for tulip, I needed a vessel because without a tulip stem without leaf and it's not terrible.
Folded with printer A4 sheets! This process of maintaining content, can also be applied to a square, a hexagon, etc..

Malifold from pliagedepapier.com: Fountain Pen
It is a fountain pen!
Compatible with standard cartridges. However, it must be pierced before the paper is not strong enough for that:?
Paper : 2x 6x6cm ; 2x 10x10cm ; 1x 17x17cm
I used the foil because it is waterproof.
The hardest part was to prevent leaking toner everywhere: the first time, my cartridge was emptied in five seconds: evil: but now it is much better: D

THE FIRST HALFTIME FOR THE SUBMISSION OF MODELS FOR THE CHALLENGE IS ALMOST OVER.

Let's hope that the models of this second half will really demonstrate the astonishing possibilities of paper and the tasks it can accomplish with the right folds.

With that in mind, I present to you the model I just finished creating: FIREPLACE BELLOWS

Image

Image

When it's folded the right way, paper can help light a fire like any other bellows. I actually show you this in THIS VIDEO. I folded it with a single 5' 8'' X 2' 3'' rectangle.

Show me that paper can accomplish tasks that are even more astonishing than the one by my fireplace bellows!

(SINCE I'M IN CHARGE OF THIS CHALLENGE, THIS MODEL CAN'T COMPETE IN IT)

This is my entry for the “Useful and Astonishing” challenge. I am not going to tell you what it is used for just yet. If you think you have an idea what it is, make a guess. If you make a guess, give that guess an interesting name. I may just (with your permission) use that name for this entry.
If I get a number of wrong guesses in that are far off base, I will let you know by saying “That is not what I made but that sounds like a great idea, fold it!” If I don’t say anything it may be that your ideas is so good it doesn’t need encouragement or maybe it matches something I already have planned for another entry and I don’t want to let you know just yet, or maybe you got lucky and made a good guess, or maybe what you guessed just leaves me speechless.
Over the next two weeks, I will add additional clues until I am ready to reveal the real function of this entry.

While waiting for me to explain what my first entry is, here is another entry for this challenge:

Image

Origami Special Lens Frame
This is an Origami Frame in which you can insert and use special lenses.
The Frame is folded from one single rectangle (50” by 4.5”) of heavy foil backed wrapping paper.
There is a special folded lock in each corner of both sides so that multiple lenses can be inserted and held securely.
I constructed this frame to use while folding polarized origami. You can change the lenses inserted to test different effects.
Picture A shows the frame without lenses.
Picture B show inserting my prescription lenses ( I am nearly blind without glasses)
Picture C show adding polarized lenses (filters) added behind the prescription lenses.
Picture D shows How the lenses change when viewing another Polarized Filter.
Picture E shows the effect of rotating the filter.
Notice that the lenses in the left and right sides act differently. That is because I have also inserted a single sheet of cellophane on the left side.
In addition to my major purpose in making this frame, the following uses are possible.
3D glasses for Movies
Polarized Sunglasses
Polarized Prescription Sun Glasses
A whole lot of unusual visual effects !

Wow... that's really hard to guess :?. It looks like part of the front of a truck. I'm thinking I should get this posted in the other forums after people have guessed correctly (or you have told us) what it is. Are you ok with that :) ?

Cool second model, I'll ask to post your frame in the other forums right now!

Awesome garibiilan! I always wanted to create one but didn't know how. Must you use both hands to open it?

Garibiilan, you must at least post one photo, besides the dimensions of the starting paper. Please do that as soon as possible so I can ask my friends to post it in the other forums, ok :)?

Do you have a site to upload your photos. If you don't, you can use Neorigami for that.

PS: You should also participate in the Monthly Folding Challenge with this model

The Nose - an eyeglass stand
from one 21x25cm rectangle of construction paper backed with aluminum foil

This model is useful for everybody wearing glasses (or occasionally shades). It solves the dilemma of storing them in a conveniently reachable location without looking messy.

Andrey Ermakov presented in "LoveOrigami" the model: TO BE OR NOT TO BE?

Paper - elephant hide
Square 2 X 2 ft.
The model is completely closed with paper from all sides!

What is it?

As you could probably guessed it, this device can help you make a decision, when the laws of logic can not help you. You can just put the possibilities in the boxes in the bottom of the device and throw the ball from the top. There's a 45 - 45 chance that it will fall into one of the boxes... You don't have to put just "Yes" or "No" in the boxes. You can also put:
-the photos of two girls, so you can choose which one to got out with tonight,
-the names for your unborn child
-And much more!

This device is an improvement of the coin flipping system, because here there's a small chance (around 10%) that the ball will stop on its way down. So you can have a third, hardly probable, option...
You can also make not two, but more boxes in the bottom of the model!

Re: Inter-forum useful model challenge

It is time to reveal my mystery entry. It is folded entirely from rectangels and assembled without glue. The total number of rectangles depends on which example is used.
This item is called "Quiz Sticks" and it has two very serious goals which are shown in the first video.
You should be aware that the sample quizes presented are deliberately flawed so as to serve as discussion points for understanding and improving the construction of tests.

Image

One question, one answer per each set of sticks.
This is a flawed quiz - depending on what the goal is.
You can answer each by counting digits rather than actually performing addition.
You can also answer the question by trial and error because the star reveals the correct answer.

Image

One question with 4 answers for each set of quiz sticks.
One problem with this quiz is the orientation of the "Rectangular Prisms" in the diagram and an understanding of the concept of height.
Trial and error alone is not enough for this quiz set-up.
Can you spot other problems with these quiz questions?

I have a third video which explaines some of the complexities of the second example but I will let you first get your brain around the basic premis. Make sue to look at the References at the end of the second video. It adds a little humor to this serious discussion and shows just a bit of my background for designing test items.
