There are a variety of Kraft papers. Proper Kraft is strong and does not need to be treated. Recycled Kraft paper is weak as is not worth buying. I have used Kraft paper to fold Mabona's elephant.

I really like Kraft paper because it is cheap and can be bought in large quantities. You also don't need to glue, you can just cut off a square and start folding.

You can also paint Kraft paper. Bright colors are kinda hard because Kraft paper is brown by itself, but you can get quite far with just cheap acrylic paint. I also dilute the paint with MC so I can get a thin layer of paint and the paper doesn't lose it strength (like it would when diluting with water)
