Hello, I’m sure this kind of question is asked every other day, but I can’t quite find what I’m looking for. I have recently ordered The works of Satoshi Kamiya and am wondering what kind of paper I need to do some of the complex models therin. Is Kraft suitable for any? Because I have good access to that in a local art store. I’ve also heard that some of the most suitable paper is self made. How do I go about doing that? Thanks you

I don't think you will find the best paper for collecting complex origami figures in a regular craft store. You need to look for specialized stores that have a large assortment of handicraft products.

There are two things I recommend you to try.
Number one try out making your own double tissue paper and tissue foil. The ingredients are cheap and easy to find. Here are two videos by Sara Adams that explain step by step how to do it:

Second thing you should do is getting accustomed with a variety of papers to find the ones you like best. Not every paper is equally suitable for every model, you always have to find the best paper for a specific model. It comes with a good variety of papers that are especially well suited for folding. Of course what it contains is only a fraction of the papers that can be used, but it is a good starting point.

Regarding the Kraft paper, it depends. For some time I folded almost exclusively from a very thin kind of Kraft paper. Kraft paper comes in very many different thicknesses and strengths and some might be more suitable than others. I have a friend who once bought an enormous roll of thin Kraft paper that he backcoated with aluminium foil and he folded basically everything from that kind of paper, Kamiya models included.

kraft is "suitable" for complex origami but don't be discouraged if your results don't look like the sample models at the front of the book. the problem is that "kraft" paper is in fact quite heterogeneous and can mean lots of things. the "kraft" you find stateside is usually not as thin as the "pros" use.
