The paper I use is highly dependent on the specific model. I generally prefer tracing paper for a "wild-card" to make anything, but I'll use small squares of foil for simpler things. For test-folds, as many people have already mentioned, I use standard copy paper or kami. I'll use Tant or unryu for other models, as well, if I think they'd look good.

Everyone of my friends and family knows I'm an origami obsessive, so they all buy me paper all the time. I must have thousands of sheets of pre-cut kami around the house (mostly 15cm but a couple of packs of 24cm) which I use for practice folds and testing out ideas.

I've tried a lot of different papers from bricks-and-mortar shops and on-line and probably my favourite (so far) is the "deluxe washi" that origami-shop.com sells, but at around £2 a sheet, I save that for my favourite models that I know I won't mess up!

I'm going to try making my own tissue-foil and MC'd tissue and double-tissue. I'll have to go hunting around for some tissue to try with! I also had an idea; I have some 15cm sheets of washi and some thin foil squares that are roughly the same size (actually they're the wrappers from Tunnock's tea-cakes) so I might see what happens when I glue the two together. I just need to buy some PVA.

This sounds fun! How do you make your own tissue foil?

I didn't know that existed! Most recent page of kamiya's ancient dragon help topics, somewhere, is where you offered to tell everyone how you did your tissue foil. I think it was you, and i think it was there, because i remember me being a bit sarky.
I find it very odd discussing on a forum how to find something on a forum. It is very strange.

I make at least one sheet today, if not two. I've cut the paper for a blue/gold sheet of tissue foil, this'll be my test, then i'll make the iron man paper.

you can get mc based glue (elmers craft glue) for about $5 on amazon or most craft shops

elmer's craft glue is an adhesive, if you just schlap it on before adding water, you will have one screwed up origami model.

add some of the glue to a lot of water. just enough glue so it turns the water white. then you can use it as a ghetto MC.
