it's worth noting that VOG paper is mildly overrated. the beautiful models you see on flickr are very often adultered (i.e., they used glue).

by "i don't think so," do you mean that they don't when the folders who routinely use it have plainly said that they have? nguyen cuong hung has personally come hereabouts and outright said the paper is not that thin, they use it because it is readily available. as someone who has also splurged on ogami quite a bit recently, let me reassure you there is no "magic paper" with all the answers. shy of ogami or origamido, you're going to have to break some purist rules. it's also no secret by the way that kamiya uses glue in his exhibition grade models. he outright shows all the pictures of himself using glue and wire for display purposes in his 2nd book.

The only reason he does that is to preserve them. I do the same, except for the wire. if I could read Japanese i would buy that book, but i can't. when it gets translated, i', buying it, though.

I think use of glue is alright on finished models. I use it quite a bit if I'm using Tant on models with a lot of layers and don't want it to splay out. The only time I don't think it's "pure" origami is when you can't finish a model without it.

let me put it more plainly. i have several sheets of VOG paper, and in order to achieve the results you see in those flickr photos, you are going to have to use glue, wire, and/or some sizing. the paper is springy and is given to splay. the moose in that youtube video is almost sure not to stand and will splay, as the model is wont to do even with foil. the paper is flimsy and large models will not stand on their own (le tuan's werewolf, for example). for the record, origami-shop lists the weight as 58 gms--but terry sells some kami that is 52 gms.

how can you comment that it's only to preserve them if you don't have the book? perhaps you should do some research on the forum. it was "revealed" some time ago that kamiya used glue extensively, and the clamor of disappointment amongst the purists was palpable. he clearly uses glue to help keep layers together, too--the book shows him practically painting the innards of his kabutomushi with the stuff.

glues fine unless you cannot complete the model without it.

you are perhaps missing the point. i did not say that glue was not fine. the OP was very eager to get his paws on some VOG paper. i am telling you that it is not necessarily that much better than ordinary kami, and it is not some kind of panacea of paper, and in order to get the final product that you see in the flickr albums, you will need to do some final modifications. if you are okay with that, then crumpled paper is fine. if not, it may not be worth you time to plop down however much origami-shop is asking.
