You should try with Reinolds baking paper, I used a square of the maximum size allowed by the roll of paper. (I think is 25x25)

And use glue to shape it.
Thanks for the tip. Is this the paper you used?

Very good for complex models

your pray mantis is very nice, I usually buy the one without the waxy coating on it, it makes folding difficult as they tend to slide around. :?

Thanks WhisperPuffin. I've just had a look at his/her Flickr. It's amazing isn't it? For the butterfly, i tried that one before but got stuck at step 30 where u have to "stretch the bottom points up and out to the sides, pleating the middle layers horizontally on existing creases". ( The reverse-folds in step 28 is already a headache to me, hehe). Your help would be greatly appreciated, Froy and every one!

It's the mantis by Robert Lang, the one diagrammed in Origami Insects 2. hence the name of the topic

there's no need to roll your eyes at me. look again. the mantis froy folded on the last page is completely different from the mantis on this page. the head is different, as is the structure of the forelegs.

mhmm, yes thats right. Robert Lang designed and diagrammed two different mantis models. The one on the previous page by froy is the one diagrammed in origami insects and their kin and the one on this page is the one diagrammed in Origami insects 2. The second one is much more complex than the first.

Mm-hm, that isn't the one diagrammed in Origami Insects II. They look similar, but compare the pincers; Slightly different. Also, the heads antennea are different.
