Need help with "Shivanni the Giraffe"

Hello,

I am looking for help on how to fold "Shivanni the Giraffe" the model from page 99 of
Crease and Fold: Innovative Origami Projects Anyone Can Make by Sok Song.

I have no problems until I get to step 9 on page 100, when you are asked to "Repeat steps 6-9 on the left side." When I do this, no matter which layer I use as "the left side," my model does not look like the diagram in step 10.

Has anyone successfully folded this model? If so, can you guide me from step 9 to step 10?
