I am stuck on step 9 on tarantula in The Complete Book of Origami, and am confused about which layers to pull out. I am also confused to how it could lead to the picture shown on step 10.

Also how does step 12 become 13.
When I make the preliminary fold, it doesn't look like the image from step 13.

Sorry to say, but I really think, you should attempt an easier model. These are not even the complicated steps of the tarantula. If you struggle so early on, you should rather fold something else and come back to the model when you earned some more experience.

I'm challenging myself I guess.
Sometimes Lang has vague instructions.
