im experienced with very few complex CPs but I don't know where to start on this one from the tandeidan magazine #162

It looks like the author was kind enough to provide the refrence folds! Be thankful, you've just been saved.
From the diagram in the top right, it looks like you have to fold the edge to the diagonal, like a kite base.
Then you will have to make a crease that runs from the top edge's halfway mark to the bottom edge's crease you just made.
That new crease will intersect with the diagonal crease, and the intersection will be the center for the large center flap near the middle.

Once you've done that, I would recommend ignoring the intimidating top left part and solve the rest of the crease pattern. Also, you can sink the part that creates the fingers towards the end of the collapse.

wow that's more information I thought I'd get... you've summed it all up and I'm extremely thankful for your reply! Sorry for the late reply, it took awhile before I could get my laptop to work again lol
