Humm I dont have a camera but I think I can see what they are aiming at, step 53 is an intermediate one, were the sides are pushed in but not flattened... closer in fact to a squash fold than a sink at this point.
The key would be the flat diamond shape at the bottom created by lifting the pointed flap, you have to both fold it in half and pull it upwards.
I'll try and fold it this weekend to test the hypothesis (if no one posts a photograph in the mean time).
