Brian Chan - Rei V.3

The crease pattern itself is fairly simple. However, I'm uncertain as to how Chan shaped the hair flaps in the way shown in the image.

The creases there don't seem to match up with the CP, or even the point lengths shown in the CP by the circle packing depicted on it. Which is all well and good, but I'd be curious if anyone had any input on how they would best fold the hair, if they've done this model before. I personally think that Chan's execution of the hair is very good, and looks quite natural and appropriate for the character, so if anybody knows how he pulled it off I'd love to know too!
