Robert Lang - Butterfly (Origami Insects and their Kin)

Post by Dariogami »

Hi everybody,

Currently I am folding the diagrams of his book: Origami Insects and their Kin (1995).

I am stuck at the Butterfly: page 42 step 28/29 "Reverse fold the edges in and out on the existing creases. Be careful that you do not trap any layers at the top (see next step)."

I have tried to first squash fold the model. And then reverse fold in and out. But somehow the layers get trapped. Please help me ! Can anyone post a video or picture of how to perform this step??

Thanks so much

It’s an open sink, not a reverse-fold. I don’t know why he would use that term.
I don’t have the book with me at the moment (and it’s difficult to explain in words), but you’re essentially having the vertical mountain and valley folds “bounce off” the diagonal folds at the top. It’s an extremely tricky sequence—probably (among) the hardest in the entire book if my memory serves.

Good luck!
After the fall, we rise.

if this is the step i think it is. there is no easy way to do it. you just have to gently work the sinks in and out.
