Help with Alduin (Satoshi Kamiya)

Post by volcore »

Recently I decided to try folding Kamiya's Alduin model. For the most part, I was able to decipher the CP, but I hit a road block when trying to fold the top left and bottom right corners.

Here's the Crease Pattern in its entirety: https://i.imgur.com/5B4Pr9x.png

And here I've circled the areas I got stuck on: https://i.imgur.com/1DOq0VY.png

Finally, here's my current model, please excuse some of the stray pencil marks, and bad pencil lines: https://i.imgur.com/yNjIeiB.jpg

Do you guys have any advice on how to fold these parts of the model?

Additionally, for those of you who have successfully folded the model before, do you happen to have any tips / advice for shaping & forming? I guess, specifically, I've never really attempted a CP that isn't color coded between mountain & valley folds before, so how would I even figure out what the folds are?

Thanks for your time.

FearlessFlourish has precrease and collapse tutorials for Alduin. I haven't tried folding it before but in my experience fearlessflourish generally does decent tutorials.

For folding crease patterns that aren't colour-coded, there are some tricks you can use to work it out from looking at the structure of the crease pattern. There are always exceptions, but in general:
- Creases next to the edges are usually valley folds (if you have the paper white side up)
- Parallel pleats alternate between mountain and valley
- Around a point where many creases converge (to form a flap) the radial creases usually alternate between mountain and valley.
These rules can get you through a lot of most crease patterns, although sometimes it will be a bit more complicated. Practice is key, and using tutorial videos like fearlessflourish's one can help build your crease pattern solving intuition.

Sorry for the delay, but from looking at his video, it seems as if he unfortunately does not cover the creases in question.
