Kasahara llama

Post by lbspen »

I'm just starting to move past beginner models and I'm working on the llama in Kunihiko Kasahara's Origami Omnibus. I didn't find another thread on this topic. I'm happy that I made it to step 5, but I can't figure out how to go any further without unfolding everything or tearing the paper!

Is this the best way to link to images? I saw a thread about posting images but I can't find it now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello and welcome on board.
The album you linked to is set to private, therefore we can't see the pictures.
Theoretically Photobucket should be fine as picture host. Flickr has some nice features that allow for easy linking, but Photobucket should work as well if you change the album permissions.
Most picture hosting sites offer links with different sizes that you can directly copy and paste into your post. You need the one that fits into a 640x640 pixels square. For Flickr that would be the BBCode medium z.
More on that subject can be found in the topic "How to insert pictures": viewtopic.php?f=2&t=721

For the model, step 5 is a spread squash. Meaning you take the upper layer and pull it to the right. While doing so, the two inner triangles will move up. You have to open them from the sides (top and down in the drawing) and press them flat with a squash.

Thank you for your response, but I am still unsuccessful. I think I'm squashing the wrong things. Hopefully you can see the image this time

Okay, I see.
What you have to do is to make some additional folds before the paper gets collapsed. You made a square with valley folds by folding the sides to the middle. Turn the paper over and bring those folds (now mountains) to the middle to create another square inside the one you just made.
If you turn the paper over again it will look like this: https://photos.app.goo.gl/h8PXS88u8Zbh8ckD9
Now you can start to collapse: https://photos.app.goo.gl/bB2FBvzLkfSFXZ2L7
The finished step will look like this: https://photos.app.goo.gl/j879AoD4ZHpSePvX8
If you are still having troubles, you can also add these folds before the collapse, they will form naturally when you do it right but it can help to add them beforehand: https://photos.app.goo.gl/r4kR7y8e73A6v6ED6
Good luck with the model. (I'm a bit short on time therefore only links to the pictures.)

Thank you! I finally got it! I would not have succeeded without your pictures.
