How to fold a Columbine

Post by SandyFlower »

Hello all,

First of all I am German und I hope you understand my brittle English. I have found a diagram called "columbine", which I find really nice.

This is the link:
http://dev.origami.com/images_pdf/afbcol.pdf

My problem begins with the first step. the paper in form of a pentagon and you must collapse it into a waterbomb base. But I do only know how to fold the waterbomb base only with a quadratic paper. So I have already a problem at the beginning.

I hope anybody can help me. Thanks a lot.

Did you valley fold on all five lines? :? Notice on the diagram how the result of step 1 has 3 parts sticking out on one side and 2 parts on the other side... it folds together quite naturally :D I will post a picture

Part 2 (coming together)

Part 3 (finished- bottom view)

I just grabbed the nearest piece of scrap paper and made it into a pentagon, but the pictures still show you what to do :D

hey "cupcake",
you're great :-)
I did'n really understand your description but when I look at the pictures it becomes very clear. thanks so much.
But how i get the pentagon form? how long are the 5 sides or do you need a special angle? you must know, I have never fold something with a pentagon-paper, so I'm little bit confused how to make this form with a normal piece of paper.

 I don't honestly know how to get an equilateral pentagon, which you need to make this diagram... I just quickly made a pentagon to show you how  ... I know that It all relies on the angles, though. I will get back to you when I figure out how :D

Instructions to get a regular pentagon from a square can be found for example here:

Yes, it does work very well... but only go to step 9 (see result on step 10) :D Thank you, Daydreamer... Also, after you have the same result as on step 10, you can cut off all the paper folded in, so that your just left with the penatgon
