Dearest everybody,

The time is ripe for origami to become functionalistic. I reckon it would be pretty sweet to be able to fold your own life size furniture.

Does anyone know of a working wine rack folding diagram? I need a place to put my bottles of wine.

What do YOU think about that, huh?

Thanks you kindlys.

A wine rack? :-k To do that, you'd need a pretty big piece of paper... and no, I have never heard of an origami wine rack... perhaps you could design one? :D

I like functional origami, too. But I would be careful doing something like a wine rack. Even if you finish it with something to make it sturdy, the weight of wine bottles will probably destroy it after not too long.

It can be done....but with cardboard of course! Have a look at this site.....it has a futon bed made with 7mm thick cardboard.....the storage compartments holding some personal items is very innovative. You could certainly make a wine rack with the same idea

That bed you link to absolutely the sweetest thing imaginable -- an absolutely stunning creation. Lotsa love from Sturla, lotsa!!

I'm gonna do the bed instead, it's way cooler.

At this point, I can't resist pointing out the cardboard house:

Granted, it's not exactly origami, but perhaps it's possible to fold one up. :)

there's a german company that sells furniture made from paper (crincled cardboard to be more specific). they are also selling beds and tables and stuff at resonable prices:
http://www.stange-design.de/

here are their products:

they could surely make a wine rack out of cardboard (they even have a working sex-proofed bed :) )

Sweeet links!

The links you guys throw around in here are absolutely great and very inspiring. Especially the German design firm specializing in affordable cardboard furniture, is something I intend to look closer into and eventually buy the bed avalible at a ridicoulus 70€.

Keep 'em coming and take care,
Sturla.

Alternatively, you could try and get hold of Momotani's Doll's House with Origami, and fold everything from large cardboard.

uhm i hav an IDEA, but not a diagram. heres what i think should work: two cardboard slim pieces upright with slits in it. like this:

>>>
------
>>>
------

... except the carbboard sides are straight, and the ">" means nothing. so like, before you put the wine on the racks, you should double reinforce it. around 1 inch under each shelf you should slide another cardboard under it. approx. cost for all items: 10$

my equation is thinking of the cost of sci. project boards, so each is around 4$. each SP Board is around 4 slabs of cardboard when cut. the length-wise cardboard would be different, but still its a working plan. not very stable, but it'll keep the wine together.

cheap isnt it? not pro work but it should be goood!!!
