This may sound silly but how do I get a paper with proportions 2 square root (3):13? Is it the "Long John Silver" used to make the Magic rings?

Thanks in advance,

Like written below this is equivalent to 1:3,75, so a 26,3x7cm paper should work fine.

lol I got it five seconds after that video, and I would post how exited i am
if it werent for fear of getting slammed with a forum rule #4
anyway, heres atleast a link to the three Ive done so far,
two printer paper, and one dual color.
The evil one is the printer paper on the end!

Ah, about the whole insane square root paper, I do a lazy method.
I just rip a strip that i know is long enough, then do the triangle grid
and rip off any exess on the end.
the diagonals start and stop at the end of the papers at 3/4 marks,
so its pretty fast.

This is how Vicente Palacios diagrammed this model. He says:
1. Start with a 1:4 strip
2. Do the triangle grid and at the end cut the excess paper and so you will have your 1:whatever that number is

I don't have the camera with me at the moment, but if you check http://www.britishorigami.info/academic ... lop16.html and follow the instructions, you'll jump from step 16 to 20 and skip the difficult 19.

Just lift the top flap and fold the bottom one in half. There is a small triangle that will try to get in your way, just open it a little until you accomodate the paper and you should be ok. If this is not enough I'll post a video tomorrow.

could you please explain what im doing wrong?

This one is easy, it just happened to me last week. You are making the valley mountain folds of the crimp wrong. Invert them. I think the triangle ones are valley and the straight fold is mountain, but I might be wrong since I do not have the diagrams with me. Check the diagrams and do exactly as they say and you should be fine (inserting the tip through the model won't be easy but it can be done)

muahahahahaha 6-7 hours latter i have made it. The model itself is mathematically simple but making it took time lol.

A great model.....especially if your bored in class.

Mathematically simple? You mean from the geometry point of view in regards of the number of sides and all that? Well maybe, but from the origami point of view this has got to be the cleverest model ever designed. There is no other like it. Taking a strip of paper and making some clever type of knot to obtain the 12 sided thingy is just plain genious

I'm having a different problem with step 20, when I reverse fold the flap, it blocks the paper that was folded up in the shortcut. Basically, I can't thread it through, the reverse fold makes the hole too small.

You have to do the crimp first and then without letting it undo, do the reverse fold.

Unless I'm doing something wrong you have to perform the reverse fold first, since the location of the pivot point for the crimp would force you to fold the crimp the wrong way until after the reverse fold.
