Question about rose bud

Post by lifeisgood »

In Roses, Origami & Math, by Toshikazu Kawasaki, is there a mistake in 14 onwards of the small square of the twistfold?

I can get the final rose bud, but the orientation of my square with regard to the lines is different; the one in the book (pages 120 and 121) are parallel to the square. In my foldings, the lines are diagonally bisecting the small sqaure of the twistfold.

Thank you.

It's 3-d. I also had trouble with that step, so I decided to ignore it.

My algebra lecturer at university said "in maths, it doesn't matter if you use a dubious technique to get an answer, as long as you can check it afterwards".
Origami is similar - if you can fold the rose bud, who cares if the diagram is wrong? But there is an oft-linked-to diagram of that model which explains it slightly differently, and frets less about the fate of the central square.
