I've just tried it, though I used a real small paper...

This arma has the same difficulties than the one of his Icarus. This time I solved it spreading the first layer, I meanopening it and spreading it in front of the arm and rearranging the base of the spreaded layer behind the fold, but it's really challenging...

a couple of pictures.

When I made it, I used a 50x50 cm square of 70gsm Kraft paper. It came out a reasonable size, and I could do all of the details easily.

Good Luck

thanks! :D i don't have kraft paper here right now. will try some cheap japanese paper, but will use the same size you suggested. i tried making the model with a smaller piece of paper and the hands are nearly impossible to fold.

Yeah, they do get a bit fiddley to fold, espcially with thicker paper.

Confused about steps 21 to 26

Post by baghira »

Hi,

i think i have made step 21 right. When it lies in front of me it looks like an open mouth. But i'm not able to fold the corner in step 22 especialy without destroying it in step 23.

Perhaps someone has an idea what is going wrong. Eventualy a real picture of these steps might help.

Thank you.

Step 70? :(

Post by noyahuid »

Hi,
Step 22 is a squash fold, not entirely unlike the one in making the bird base/crane. :)

Like that poster several steps above, I'm having trouble with step 70. What layer of paper does one wrap around the arm? :/

Hi,

I'm not sure if you still need help, but I just folded this model today. From my understanding of the diagram, step 70 is only transient, in that you wrap it around temporarily (while stressing the paper) to make creases for the thumb, then unfold the wrapping to continue. In steps 99 and 101, you wrap the layer permanently to lock the model. I found it easier to just ignore 70-73 and fold the thumb at the later stages.

Step 28 just tells you to put the flaps upright so that they're out of the way for the next few steps-- look at step 33 to see what I mean.

And by the way-- looking ahead when you don't understand something is very helpful!
