Praying Mantis Help by Michael LaFosse in Advanced Origami

Post by sunmaid »

Step 31 on page 105 says "repeat on the other side"
What other side? The left? The right? The back?
And repeat what?
I can't fold anything over from right to left to get the smooth diamond look in step 32.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Sunmaid

What you have to do is repeat steps 26-30 in mirror image. To do so fold the top left flap in step 31 over to the right, then free the layer (step 26) an go on with step 27.

Edit:
I believe there is a drawing mistake in step 46. The flap you have to Squash-fold is on the left hand side of the drawing and not on the right.

Anna,
Thanks for the help.
Usually when directions say "repeat" they also tell
you specifically what steps to repeat.

Could someone help me?
I'm on step 59, but i can't do what he want.
He says 'Mountain-fold edges in on each side of the head (at number 1). Mountain-fold top point behind (at number 2).', but when i do that i can't find the what he shows on step 60.
I'll put some photos of my model here to help you.

Sorry for the english.

Thank you. That helps but I'm still stuck on step 46/47. No... Wait.. never mind. I figured it out. My flaps weren't in order, so to speak and made it look differently than the picture. But thank you Origami_8! I'll make a note in my book about that :)

In step 8, my upper corners aren't reaching the middle. Are they not supposed to? In the book they don't touch the exact middle but I thought that was because of illustrative purposes, except in step 10 it shows the fold going to the exact corner. Does anyone else have this problem? I folded the rest of the model fine, except for the fact that it split down the middle 1/2 of the way, about 2 inches... :-({|= so I just ripped it completely in half

I have the same question keven89. When you fold the points to the center in step 8 the edges slightly overlap and this doesn't turn out right. When you align the edges like the book says you can never make the mountain fold all the way to the corner of the paper like step 10 indicates.

I didn't manage to fold this model properly yet. Any advice on this or other steps would be greatly appreciated.
The squash folds are hard to do neatly. As a matter of fact all the steps starting at 47 are very hard to me...

I have the same question keven89.
CP: These are the creases not meeting exactly after forcing the corners to meet the exact center instead of aligning the edges like written in step 8: http://i.imgur.com/rVt3T0m.png

This is the only way following steps seem to work out.
Is this correct?
