Just fold along the indicated creases in step 191 and it should collapse nicely. Look at step 192 as a reference. Heres pictures to help illustrate though:

Step 191:

Step 191 progression:

Step 192:

hope that helps

Make sure you follow the creases shown in the diagram, plus i can see that you are not pulling the paper out from behind. This is what it should look like:

I outlined in red, where the kite-shape comes from, and the blue arrow shows where you need to pull paper out from behind.

there are two ways of doing this.

the hard way is to try and pre-crease it and open-sink as indicated. this requires opening the model somewhat, and there really is no easy way to precrease it completely.

the easy way is to ignore it. spread the layer as evenly as possible during step 190 to achieve the same effect. (essentially, you are doing an open sink of that corner, and then spreading it later).

you can open sink this even earlier, from what i understand, to make it easier, but you are way beyond that point.

Hey again, thanks for the advice earlier. I would have gotten back to my folding sooner but I've had a slew of exams to study for.

I was able to refold that middle flap out, but I'm left with something I don't think is quite right.

Image

As seen here in step 83, I think the middle part should be attached to one side.

Image

When I move the flap to the side you can see the layers below would make this difficult to attach to one side, which is what I think I was supposed to do.

I feel like this is significant but am not quite sure how to fix this.

this error happened back when you were forming the pleats which eventually become the toes. the origamist in you took over and you made the pleats symmetrical when they should not be (i.e., one layer should be trapped).

you will have to start again.

Thanks, I was afraid it would be something like that. I'll try one last time to open up the sides to trap the layer and refold from there.

Edit: It worked (with a bit of tearing =/ )! If anyone's interested, I'm making a time lapse of my folding and I can post it when I finish.

That is, unless I get confused along the way again!

Hello, guys. I had read through this thread but could not find a clear solution to my problem. I'm at step 127 and I just could not figure out how to do this so that it would looke like 128. What do you do with the extra flaps of paper at the upper corners of the flap that you fold? I really need help. Thanks in advance.
