Online diagrams database
I thought a while about the idea to give the possibility to search one single page for online diagrams. regarding to the fact, that I neither know PHP nore like to learn it, I opened up another Forum:
http://origami.foren-city.de/
I thought, it is an easy way to enter diagrams and search for them
check it out and tell me, what you think about the idea.
e.g. search for "cat", and see, what you get

Interesting idea, although using a forum to manage a database may be a bit unwieldy. Particularly the post format - there's no way of ensuring that posters will follow the format you've prescribed, which would mean extra work on your part to clean up the posts. And inevitably, there'll be people posting requests for diagrams from books.
What's quite funny is the Google ad that's automatically tacked onto the page - it's an ad for some questionable origami ebooks...

I'm not planning to clean anything. if the users wish to have a good working database, they need to enter the mdels correctly. self responsibility. maybe I will correct the entries, but you shouldn't expect anythingParticularly the post format - there's no way of ensuring that posters will follow the format you've prescribed, which would mean extra work on your part to clean up the posts.
because the forum is not made for browsing but searching, diagram requests would be completely useless. and if somebody asks: who cares??? I mean, it's not a discussion board. you are in search for a cat diagram? go there, and find one. there's no need to browse the forums, and because of that, nobody will be bothered by false entries. And inevitably, there'll be people posting requests for diagrams from books.

I always thought http://www.origami.com/ was an excellent way of searching for online models no?

impossible.Chris, do you think it would be possible to auto-alphabetize the forum? That way it would be much easier to find the wanted diagrams...
just use the "search" function, and you will get a list of the diagrams. if you want to browse the forum, you need to live with the disordered entries. if you are in search for an specific model, you should always use the search function.
you will "only" find models, that are hosted by http://www.origami.com, but not those from other pages. that's the idea of my new forum. to give you a searchable database of diagrams to be found on different webpages.I always thought http://www.origami.com/ was an excellent way of searching for online models no?
