Lew Rozelle Origami Ornaments Problem

Hi all,

I did complete some of the easier ornaments and then decided I wanted to give one as a gift, so I tried to make the 6 sided Brightstar Carousel. After folding all of the individual pieces, I was trying to put it together and the joiners all seem to be too big. The simple joiners I blintz folded once more and doing that makes them fit correctly to join the starbright bases. However, the connected tandem joiners are too big and I can't think of a way to fit them without starting over with a smaller piece of paper. I think a piece about 1/3 smaller than what I'm using will work, but I'm not sure.

Has anyone else had this problem with the more complex ornaments in this book and does anyone have a known work around? Or did I just miss something in the directions?
