Post by srianandh »

Can anyone help me with the base (photographs) of Brian Chan's Hermit Crab? I'm confused folding the corners of the CP.

I hope it is okay with you that I answer your PM to me in here so that other people can benefit from it as well.

Here's the CP with the legs, etc. noted and a schematic view of how the base would look like viewed from the top.

The numbers in the CP and in the Base are the same for reference.
As for the shell you have to carefully pull out the pleated layers at the end after collapsing the base, wrap this extra paper around the rest of the model and shape the shell to taste.
So long and keep folding ^_^

Here's my first attempt with 15cm Japanese foil.

Something which might help you to fold this model: You should thin and form the legs and eyes before you create the shell. I did it the other way round and the appendages are not so easy to reach and form once the shell is in place. So... first collapse the base, then shape the legs and in the very end pull out and form the shell.

My shell didn't turn out so nicely, but as Brian Chan said on his page.... that's due to the fact that the poor Hermit crab couldn't find a better shell to live in ;-)
So long and keep folding ^_^

Well, I didn't post photos from that directions first since my model doesn't look that nice that way, but since you requested it here they are.

I'm not sure if I will fold it a second time, I might one day, but there are so many other models waiting to be folded...
