This is the flying crane model that I most like the look of, however looking at the crease pattern it appears to have a ratio of 4:12+7√2 for the ratio between the 4 unit wide strip and the fish base section. Is this right? If so, does anyone know how to find this reference? Of course, I could just use ReferenceFinder, but using the exact reference is more satisfying.

Your best bet would be finding the center of the fish base, I think. Draw a line (manually or digitally) from one side corner through that point, and find where it hits the opposite edge. Just from eyeballing it, it looks close to a fish base proportion itself.
After the fall, we rise.
