Sebastien Limet pelican

I'm mostly interested in the base that was used to create this model (would like to use it as a starting point for a big, but simple flying bird). Maybe someone more knowledgeable on origami can figure it out just by looking at the model.

Thanks!

Sure, but how does one get from a bird base to such a model? Seems like a lot is needed to get the tail to work, the head to work, and the wings to unfold from 22.5 degrees into bigger 45 degree angle wings. Would you really say that this model could be described as just a bird base with some shaping?

I agree that it's a bird base (with diagonal symmetry, I think). It looks to me that the center point is the tail, and two opposite corners are folded together to become the head and beak (while the side corners become the wings). I'm not sure of an exact sequence, but that should be a good starting point.
After the fall, we rise.
