I thinks its divided diagonally into thirds. Then most of it is straight froward.
I know how to fold the lines no problem, but I don't know what's a mountain and what's a valley fold. Here's what I have so far:

Compare to bits of traditional bases and look how they do it. Assume that it's just like them on this and fiddle until you either rip the paper or you get something is my advice.

i know there was already a video for squirtle diagrams, but are there diagrams that are more true to the pokemon? if no, any thoughts for where i could start in designing one?

Well to be very honest, squirtle is one of those pokemon which is very hard to do. Unlike most pokemon it is just a normal turtle. To get it right you need to spend a large amount of paper on details of the face. Something like Nicholas Terry's Frog :

grr. if only i could "read" crease patterns really well, then see if it's possible to combine like that face, then a turtle, and finally something like a squirrel to get a round enough tail. can we say frankensquirtle?

Wow. This is remarkable.
I love it! You could have so much fun with the shaping on that.

I may try to design Greninja. It seems like it would lend itself well to origami.
