Harpseal reads and dies of a heart attack. Lol.

Now in all seriusness since this topic is about conventions in general on July 19, 20 and 21 I'll be attending Origami Bogotá III. This year's international invitee is Chris Palmer, I'm so excited.

I'm part of the organizing group (although around here it works a bit differently than in other places) and I'm friends with the two main organizers and they live 10 blocks from me. Chris Palmer will be staying with them and I'll take one or two days off on the following week since Chris is staying one more week.

Chris Palmer is clearly famous, one of the classics in the Origami world.

That's OK ... he's not as visible today, as he was 10 - 20 years ago...

It would take lots of dedication to know the 20 - 100 artists past and current (and future ?) who typify the various Origami styles...

Hank is there a good list somewhere? I clearly have one in my mind, but it would not be complete as I do not know many of the Japanese designers. We should have a curated list. I know Lang mentions many notable designers in ODS.

@Brian - There's no single official list. There have been informal lists created throughout the years on this Forum, under titles such as Styles of Origami, Top Folders, Top Designers, and so on.

If someone were patient and interested, it probably wouldn't take long to do some searches to compile an aggregate list...

The list would have to include people like Momotani, et al, who don't have electronic access.

I would want it to start with Uchiyama and go forth from there.

Big task! Good luck!
The "who is best at origami?" thread, however slightly silly, may help.

I think one reasonable approach would be to create a wiki so that people could contribute information about designers and list their accomplishments. This would have some overlap with the origami book database.

Looks like a Wiki has been started.

Actually I met him in OUSA 2007 (not that he would remember me). I took a class with him.
