"Wrapping" holiday gifts?
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Do you use origami to "wrap" your gifts? I love to do that. I usually use one of my humble box or envelope designs.
Anyway, did you wrap any gifts with an origami design? Which design? Who's is it? Would you share a photo ?
If you don't do it, tell me how come. I would love to know .

I wrap my origami with simple origami boxes. Sorry but I gave them all away, so I can't make a picture.

I guess I'll be the first to post a photo, since this is technically a gallery
I found the envelope diagram by Elsje Van Der Ploeg in an origami calendar. The butterfly is just glued on, and I'm not sure what else to say about it. I know it looks similar to a Michael LaFosse model, but I don't think it is.
Anyway, it works well for small items and gift cards.

EXACTLY! I decided to post this thread in the gallery section hoping to see some pics. I love origami envelopes and boxes. Thanks for sharing LeafPiece! I've exchanged some messages with Elsje and I folded that envelope but in thin red cardboard ; it's called the Pepi Envelope (I don't know why ); right? She invited me to the Envelope and Letter Folding Yahoo Group! but I didn't know how to join without a Yahoo! account .LeafPiece wrote:I guess I'll be the first to post a photo, since this is technically a gallery

Is the Pepi Envelope in THE Origami Calendar by Margaret Van Sickle? My origami armchair is gonna be on her 2012 calendar !
jogibaer and sam meeuwis thanks for sharing; I hope in the future (maybe next christmas), I'll get to see your envelopes and boxes! Sam, do you also glue the tesselations on the boxes?
This is the envelope I folded this christmas. It's one of my humble creations; it's a simple square envelope with a "blossoming seal". You can see a related idea here: http://www.origamitube.com/play.php?vid=544
I gave my family a certificate to have a great dinner together. Looks like we're gonna use it on new years eve. If you don't mind me asking, what did you place in the envelope LeafPiece ? Anyone else wants to share?
Happy holidays

@Gerardo. Yeah, that's it! In the calendar, it's called "peppy envelope" which I guess would be pronounced the same. The calendar I pulled it from is called "Easy Origami Fold-a-Day Calendar" with Jeff Cole. I don't think it's the same one you're talking about.
I put a gift card in one envelope and earrings in another =P.
I really like yours by the way. The colors you used remind me of a Christmas cactus.
Can't wait to see everyone else's photos, too!

Razzmatazz: I do the same thing, but only when I am feeling creative or if I feel like it.
A couple of years ago I folded some snowmen and trees and such and used them as name tags on the presents. But I definitely use my knowledge of paper to wrap those oddly shapped presents neatly

Thanks all for sharing .
grizzly man and Razzmatazz, when can we expect the pics? I'd love to see them !
kevin89, can we also expect a picture from you? The sooner the better, but it's ok if we have to wait till this years holidays .
LeafPiece thanks for being such an enthusiast with this thread. I didn't know what a christmas cactus was; you're right it's colors are similar . I hope you comment on future pics, and maybe share a pic on another holiday or till the end of this year.
We finally didn't have new year's eve's dinner out with the certificate; the place closed like at 5pm yesterday so the certificate is still in my envelope. I can't wait for us to use it !
I hope you all had a great New Year!

Re: "Wrapping" holiday gifts?
This time I made a bigger and not-as-colored package compared to last year's. It's also one of my humble creations. I gave it the name: Locking Paper Bag.
I liked the idea of buying for Christmas dinner certificates from different restaurants. But I didn't want to fold an envelope like last year, that way I'll make them think I'm giving something totally different. I accidentaly burned a thermos from home, so I bought another one, I filled it up with styrofoam snow and I hid this years certificate between all the snow. Then I half-wrapped the thermos in wrinkled printed tissue paper and that's what I placed inside the paper bag.
It'll be fun watching them looking for the gift .
COME ON! Wrap a gift using origami and post a photo here!

Re: "Wrapping" holiday gifts?
I don't stop insisting .
Believe it or not, this is another gift wrapping. It's for a friend that isn't into cute and delicate stuff (if you know what I mean), that's why I wanted a totally different wrapping. It's a super small package, so I used a chocolate wrapper. That's why I couldn't give it the smooth finish I wanted.
So it wouldn't look that bad I shrank the photo so it wouldn't be that easy to see its details .
It's my cubic box. It has saved the day more than once cause it's easy to fold and it doesn't need a lid .
Oh... inside the box there's a small necklace with a shark fang. He always dreamed with having one and I finally was able to get it .
MERRY CHRISTMAS

Re: "Wrapping" holiday gifts?
Here I present you my last origami package for this holidays. I hope you like it. It's my eight sided box. Making a few adjustments, you can make it taller (like in this case) or wider.
I wanted to try to make David_paperfold's hexagonal twist box taller, but it's definitely its short size what makes it look so good
