Hmm... sounds familiar. I'm Ethan. I'm pretty sure you taught the rose, and we were both in the cockatrice class.

Re: Crease Pattern FAQ
Okay, cool. I have a project due tomorrow, so I can't reply too often. I also haven't been doing too much origami recently, as I said in my Flickr. College prep schools... they don't give you lots of spare time. I have also tried some things, but couldn't figure out how to get one thing or the other in. For example, I made a nearly perfect seal, but I could not for my life figure out the face. In short, I have a bad case of folder's block...

Re: Crease Pattern FAQ
everything i make recently i think looks like crap so i just throw it away when i'm done with it lately...
eventually, i'll be pleased with what i make...

Re: Crease Pattern FAQ
Actually, I don't know what any of those mean! I'm used to collapsing an irregular base and playing with flaps until i have the desired shape or i am bored.cranemaster366 wrote:Um... I dunno. Mix-pleating, Hex-pleating, molecules, hybrid bases, tree theory... I'm getting all of this from Origami Design Secrets.
P.S.: Thanks for the info Baltorigamist!

Re: Crease Pattern FAQ
yay!
i just finished test folding the base of longs long horned beetle from cp. its a lot easier than the diagrams to do it from CP. less confusing (for me at least)
i'll make the real one from rice or sekishu paper with mc

Re: Crease Pattern FAQ
I had another go at the nidoran cp. I ended up with.......
Wait for it.......
A Nidoran minus its' front legs. There were no flaps whatsoever, it took ages but eventually i gave up and stuck with a nidoran with a handicap sitting down.

Re: Crease Pattern FAQ
I'm folding my first crease pattern (because I saw so many cool models with only CPs and no Diagrams ), Kei Takeuchi's Butterfly. It seems to be unpopular because it has few results in google search. Anyways, the edges are box pleats, but in the center, I have a network of lines that kind of look like this:
+++++
+++++
basically, its a bunch of intersecting lines (some of them are at quite random intervals, and some are squares. The lines that go from left to right seem to be equally distanced, but the ones that go from top to bottom are much more diversely spaced).
The question is: How do you fold these, and what do they look like?
Thanks!

Re: Crease Pattern FAQ
In the finished model, where does that section of the crease pattern end up?

Re: Crease Pattern FAQ
The entire body is composed of that, along with some box pleats
Re: Crease Pattern FAQ
Ah. I'm not the best person to help you but i'll try. Could you please post a labelled picture of a finished model, pointing to where this ends up? Sounds silly but i'm a beginner at cps, so i have no idea how to tackle something this complicated.
Attempting fibonacci box cp, is the starting paper square for this model, or is it the way it was accidentally printed (ashampoo photo commander, sounds silly? It was the only thing that could load quickly).

Re: Crease Pattern FAQ
I tried some Pokemon origami a while ago. Some are pretty easy, while others get quite annoying... Satoshi Kamiya's Phoenix is actually not too hard if you understand box-pleating. I also did a few modified cranes i found somewhere, which were basically an introduction to box-pleating for me. I'll have to get on my old, slow laptop and sift through files. The Average Folder wrote:Moderator comment: This post relates to a deleted post that said: You only really need to know one or two creases, and those should let you know what the entire rest of the model is.
Not to be annoying and contradict you, but some models you will need many references.

Re: Crease Pattern FAQ
Sorry, I went on a photography trip for 2 weeks, and there was no internet there.
Here is the CP of the butterfly I am trying to fold. My second (or third) CP.
I bought Robert Lang's book Origami Design Secrets, and it should be coming next week. I think it has some tips on folding CPs.

Re: Crease Pattern FAQ
You can use google images to find the fibonnacci cp. I can't post pictures on my phone.
Robert lang is good. His book will have crease patterning in it.
