Silly thread deserves silly 90's TV show reference.

i believe andrew is merely expressing how ridiculous it is that this thread has reached 9 pages. it has to be the dumbest topic on the board currently, by an absurdly large margin.

The point of it's existance was lost so it turned into a "name your favourite author thread" until Mr Lang turned up and it fell apart again

It's silly to think there is one artist who is best, but I do have artists who amaze me and/or who have elegant designs and/or elegant folding sequences.

If anything, I am interested in those designers and artists who are under-recognized and appreciated. For instance, I think Philip Shen's designs deserve a book and a lot more attention.

Who's the davor guy who made the 3d fish, hedghog and owl? He uses circular folds and amazing curves in his designs. He should get more recognisation.

*Sigh* recognition! I'd only just woken up after seeing a 3D film and my head was killing me! *Sigh*

Roy Iwaki (probably butchered his name)? I don't remember any of those kinds of designs, but he did use curved folds like you mentioned. (Granted, I'm not too familiar with his work.)

Davor Vinko. He's on flickr. I tried posting an image but it didn't work.

This is such a ubiquitous topic- there are dozens of folders who could qualify for the "best" folder in a certain genre.
For the supercomplex stuff, Kamiya, Lang, Ermakov, and Skuki Kato are among my favorites. For tessellations, Eric Gjerde and Joel Cooper are really impressive. For modulars, Daniel Kwan is amazing.
Phillip Chapman Bell does some really beautiful curved folding.
So really, it has to be by genre, and it is up to everyone's personal opinion.
A cynic is nothing but a realist with experience.

When it comes to reproducing other peoples' designs close to perfection, I'd like to nominage my friend from Israel, Eyal Reuveni. Check out his flickr page. His folding is near flawless: http://www.flickr.com/photos/49643647@N ... 8135810007

He surely folds my designs better than I do...
