you just named my favorite animals if you add the axolotl and velvet worm! i tried to design a tardigrade a while backchris_t wrote:
There are a few groups of animals that are very obscure and many people have never heard of, like caecilians and water bears. Caecilians look pretty much like earthworms (though they are completely different) so would not make for a very interesting model, but water bears might be fun.

Tardigrade has been done, though not (to my knowledge) diagrammed. The crease pattern doesn't look too hard, though:

Re: Animals that haven't been done...yet
I just found this topic, and I just wanted to say that I've had this frigate bird on my Flickr account for years:
I like the idea of designing something no one else has folded before, so I would make lists like this all the time when I started out designing origami. I should really try designing a colugo again, if nobody's folded one yet.

Just scrolling trough the topic because I choose 'birds' as a topic for my first odst tournament challenge. That is a freaking good fregate bird wilsonorigami.
When I have the time I might catagorize all entries until now. (birds, mammals, insects, etc.) to make it easier for someone to find a specific model.

Not sure if this one added already, found it some time ago:

Maybe when I'm done with the ODST I'll try this one. That mohawk allong the entire spine is really cool.

I need some inspiration to design something, so I decided to revive this topic. Please let me know if you found some beautifull, interesting, ugly, new, inspiring, weird, big eared, long tailed, small winged, never done before, or at least not common animals that deserve an origami rendition.

Well, I have noticed that nobody has really strived to make different dog breeds. Small ones like shih-tzus, chiauaauhs, as well as many different toy breeds have big heads, funny postures, and have potential for great color changes. Hell, you could make an origami version of your own dog! Chinchillas are insanely cute, and yet there is no more than a simple ten-step model.

There is indeed a wide variety within the dog species, ranging from the chihauhau to the Danish dog. I have a Beagle myself, but that has been done by Fumiaki Kawahata, diagrams are in one of the tanteidan magazines. Been thinking on making a German Shepard, because my mom in law has one.

Re: Animals that haven't been done...yet
Inspired by the speed challange here on the forum, I really want to make a white tailed gnu, or black wildebeest (same animal, different name).
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3497/317 ... 14a96a.jpg
But it is freaking hard. I got a nice body, but the head is a pain to figure out. I got half my sheet of paper for the head, so I should be able to figure something out. If possible I would like to create a colorchange on the tail, the mane and the horns. To get it "perfect" I'll also have to find a way to create the hair between the front legs, on top of snout, and the beard. So far I've folding, unfolding, refolding for three hours. The paper is now destroyed btw. Guess I'm a long way from making something decent.
Any models with manes and horns and ears, you people know of?

I know there are lot of horses but I did wanted to add the Gypsy horse, because of the extreme long hair on tail, manes and socks it could prove a challenge for those done with the average horse design.

Nobody has done an origami crocoduck yet.

Just when I thought I had seen just about everything, I found this creature.

So people, take out your Treemaker and start designing
