For any first attempt use an over-sized piece of paper that you really won't care to lose.

i tried printer paper but the grid became immensely small!

And that is because you didn't use an over-sized piece of paper. Use something like kraft or parcel paper which is cheap and giant.

i actually have a paper which looks like kraft but i am not sure whether it is! it has a transparent film like thing on back with some horizontal lines

If it's not expensive and you don't care if you waste it--might as well try. Right?
EDIT: I should add, how large is it?

yeah its inexpensive, its side is 37.5 cm, i purchased it in a roll
also, is it kraft paper?

So at least we know it is plausible to fold it from that size. You can try it, but really if you still can't do it, I suggest doing simpler CPs before your next attempt. Sometimes it's just the fact that you aren't there yet, and you just need to fold a few more things before you understand how to collapse a model.

i have to say, i was wrong. I can't collapse these parts! please help

i have tried my best but can't collapse the diamond like shapes in the bottom! Please help guys!!
