Satoshi Kamiya - Leafy Sea Dragon Shaping

Post by binky2819 »

Hello. I have a few difficulties with the shaping of the design. Is there any "right" way of shaping the leaves? I have folded the model multiple times yet I can never seem to get the shaping right. I also don't know how to get all the leaves to look the same (since some of the "branches" are structured differently from the rest). I can't find any tutorials anywhere. Someone once posted photo diagrams here on the forum, but they're long gone.

I have no trouble folding the base, it's just the shaping I have issues with.

Here are a couple of my attempts:

Another problem I have is with the 3 pairs of "branches" on the underside. In many photos they're clearly separated from one another even though they all originate from the same point (no rivers in between them). I don't know how to make them so separate, which makes the body look too short.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hey there. You might want to check this topic out:

http://snkhan.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6120

It is an older topic about the leafy sea dragon. There are people trying to explain both the collapsing and shaping there. What Zoraz referred to as "wizard fingers" might help you.

And please try to avoid duplicating topics next time. You could have just asked this under the already-existing topic and it would be a lot less messy for the forum.

By the way, your images are not visible to me. Just so you know.

Sorry for the duplicated topic, I'll avoid that in the future. But the topic you mention is exactly the one I was referring to. I cannot see a single image there. I've never folded the wizard before, but I do understand the explanation there.

You should be able to see the images here:

The main problem I'm having is with the leaves on the back. When I do the wizard fingers thing all the points are at the very end of the flap, and when I try to shape them, it looks like a weird hand rather than proper leaves.
And the leaves on the back of the head present the opposite problem. The points are too short and too far apart from each other, and when I've folded it it always looks very messy.
