Monthly Design Challenge - July 2018

Post by Iren Rondo »

Welcome, my friends.
The topic will be...
...
Happiness!

I want you to try express happinness into the origami. It will be hard but the new forms of origami could be examined through this topic. You can make whatever you want: masks, sculpture, animals, etc.

You can use one or more square sheets of paper, no cuts or glue are allowed except the MC.

Răzvan Cel Mare will be judging.

Good luck!

Good Idea. Dinosaurs make me happy. PRESENTING: Microraptor Gui, by Travis Nolan
ImageOrigami Microraptor Gui by Travis Nolan, on Flickr
One square sheet of Nicholas Terry Tissue-Foil, no cuts or glue. 25 cm to a side, I think.

I chose to use the Iridescent black paper because paleontologists have actually been able to analyze the fossilized melanosomes in Microraptor feathers and determine that this was the actual color scheme of a Microraptor! Sort of like a grackle, maybe. How cool is that?

Also - he looks like a happy Microraptor.

This was a spin-off from a recent design, but structurally this new design is very different, so I think it should count as being designed in July. To represent happiness, I folded a little girl with a flower. Because who doesn't like flowers?

The flower, dress, and everything was folded from a single square of 47cm sketch paper.

Is it an official rule that models must be designed during the month of the challenge?

I certainly thought that it was; that is what makes the most sense to me at any rate...

Also, great design, NCTC!

As far as I know, yes. However, as long as the structure is significantly different, I think it should count.

I'm hoping to fold an idea of my own sometime before the end of the month.
After the fall, we rise.
