Theres a Chinese legend that if you fold 1000 cranes, you become immortal, or get a wish, so on. Theres more than one version.

Immortality and long life... I think that those things often get mixed up in stories and can be found together. It's possible that the story was toned down or people that heard it got it exaggerated. I'm sure the origins should be Japanese, though. Yet that's only from what I know (I thought the legend said immortal for a while).

Oh, and as Cupcake suggests, there's more than one version.

That sounds like a safe guess

I shoud have used the word "story" and not legend, but I was in a hurry, either way I find the story about the 1000 cranes and the wish granted really amusing. But we can all be sure that he indeed has achieved inmortality by the means of us; we are never going to forget that this dude folded 1000 cranes out of one paper, and the people that we show this to, won't; at least; easily forget this achievement. Remembrance is the true inmortality.

I've read about the 1000 cranes = granted wish thing, but I believe in prayer more than wishes. My sister was recently diagnosed with paraganglioma. We're not sure if it's going to be life threatening or not, needless to say we are all quite prayerful it will not be. And as an aside, I would appreciate any prayers readers of this post might be willing to offer.

I am going to do 1000 cranes for my sister, keeping a prayer in my heart that she will make it out as un-scathed as possible. Actually, that's not a good way to look at it is it? I'll be directing prayers to God, not keeping them to myself! Never thought about it that way... I digress.

I am going to try something with it. I will string the cranes in a 40x25 pattern on string (somehow, not sure exactly how yet). I am regarding each crane as a pixel, and am going to make a design in the "crane blanket" or whatever you would call it. I'm thinking of doing a penguin, her favorite animal. I've already diagrammed it out, looks like it might work pretty well.
